Bulgaria Visa Information

Tourist Visa Rules & Entry Options for Visiting Bulgaria

Bulgaria, known for its Black Sea coastline, mountain landscapes, and historic towns, offers several entry pathways for tourists depending on nationality. Many travelers can enter visa-free for short stays, typically up to 90 days within a 180-day period, making tourism visits straightforward.

Those who require authorization must apply for a Short-Stay Tourist Visa (Type C), which allows travel for leisure, sightseeing, and visiting friends or family. Applicants usually need a valid passport, proof of accommodation, return or onward travel plans, travel insurance, and evidence of sufficient financial means.

Bulgaria also accepts valid multiple-entry Schengen visas or residence permits from Schengen member states for short tourist stays, offering additional flexibility for eligible travelers. For longer visits or purposes like work, study, or residence, travelers must obtain the appropriate long-term visa or permit.

Bulgaria follows the EU short-stay visa system, meaning many nationalities can enter visa-free for up to 90 days within 180 days. Travellers who require a visa must apply for a Short-Stay Type C Visa through Bulgarian consulates or visa centers.

Bulgaria also accepts valid multiple-entry Schengen visas and residence permits for short tourist visits, allowing eligible travellers to skip applying for a separate Bulgarian visa.

A passport valid for at least 3 months beyond your planned departure, proof of accommodation, travel insurance, and onward/return tickets are commonly required at the border.
