Finland Visa Information

Tourist Entry & Short-Stay Visa Options for Visiting Finland

Finland is a popular Nordic destination known for its breathtaking natural scenery, northern lights, beautiful lakes, and modern cities like Helsinki. Many nationalities can enter Finland visa-free for short tourism stays, especially those under the Schengen visa-exempt list, making travel simple and convenient for leisure trips.

For travelers who need authorization, Finland issues the Schengen Short-Stay Visa (Type C), which permits stays of up to 90 days within a 180-day period for tourism, family visits, or short non-work activities. Applicants typically must provide a valid passport, travel insurance, proof of accommodation, financial means, and confirmed return or onward travel.

For a short stay (tourism, business, visiting friends/family), you need a Schengen short-stay visa (Type C). This visa lets travellers stay in Finland — and any other Schengen country — for up to 90 days within any 180-day period.

You must apply through the nearest visa application centre or embassy/consulate. All applications must be submitted in person, including biometrics (unless already recorded within past 59 months). The process should ideally be started well in advance of your travel date.

If you want to stay longer than 90 days (for work, study or residence), you need to apply for a residence permit (or a national visa under the relevant category) — the short-stay Schengen visa will not cover long-term stays.
