Kenya Visa Information

Tourist Visa Routes & Entry Options for Visiting Kenya

Kenya, known for its wildlife safaris, national parks, and beautiful coastline, offers a streamlined system for international visitors. Most travelers must obtain the Kenya eVisa or the newer Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) online before arrival, making trip planning simple and efficient.

The Tourist eVisa/eTA typically allows a stay of up to 90 days for leisure, sightseeing, and visiting friends or family. Applicants usually need a valid passport, accommodation details, return or onward travel proof, and a recent passport-style photo to complete the online process.

For longer stays or different purposes such as business, study, or volunteering, Kenya offers additional visa categories and residence permits. Extensions of short-term tourist stays can sometimes be arranged through the immigration offices within the country.

As of 2024, traditional visas for many travellers have been replaced by an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA). Most foreign visitors must apply online for the eTA before traveling.

The eTA allows a stay of up to 90 days per visit. If you wish to stay longer, it may be possible to get an extension (depending on immigration rules) — for example, some visas can be extended to allow up to 180 days total stay

You need a valid passport (valid for at least six months from date of entry), a confirmed return or onward flight ticket, proof of accommodation (hotel booking or host details / invitation), and sometimes proof of sufficient funds.
