Monaco Visa Information

Tourist Visa Options & Entry Rules for Visiting Monaco

Monaco, famous for its luxury coastline, casinos, and Mediterranean charm, does not issue its own visas. Instead, it follows Schengen Area entry rules through France. Travelers from visa-exempt countries can enter Monaco freely for short tourism stays of up to 90 days within a 180-day period.

Visitors who require prior authorization must obtain a Schengen Tourist Visa (Type C) through a French consulate or embassy. This visa allows short-term visits for sightseeing, leisure, or visiting friends and family, and grants access to both France and Monaco. Applicants typically need a valid passport, travel insurance, accommodation details, and proof of sufficient financial means. For longer stays or purposes other than tourism—such as residence, study, or employment—travelers must apply for the appropriate French long-stay visa or Monaco residence permit, depending on their exact plans. Monaco does not offer extended tourist-only visas.

Citizens of many countries—including the US, UK, EU, Japan, South Korea, and others—can visit visa-free for up to 180 days. Travellers who do need a visa may be exempt if they hold a valid visa or residence permit for the US, Canada, UK, Schengen Area, or Japan.

In most airports, the paper FMM form has been discontinued, but travellers still receive a digital entry record. The authorized stay is determined by immigration officers, often up to 180 days, but not guaranteed.

Visitors may need to show a passport valid for the duration of stay, proof of accommodation, onward/return tickets, and financial means. Immigration officers may also ask for purpose of visit or travel plans.
