Myanmar Visa Information

Tourist Entry Rules & Visa Options for Visiting Myanmar

Myanmar, known for its ancient temples, golden pagodas, and scenic landscapes, offers several entry options for tourists depending on nationality. Many travelers can apply for the Myanmar eVisa (Tourist), which allows a 28-day stay and is one of the most convenient ways to enter the country for leisure travel.

The Tourist eVisa requires a valid passport, recent photo, travel details, and proof of accommodation. It is typically processed online within a few days and is valid for entry through designated airports and land borders. Some nationalities may still need to apply for a tourist visa through a Myanmar embassy. Visitors who wish to stay longer must request a visa extension through immigration once inside the country. Those planning activities beyond tourism—such as work, study, or long-term residence—must obtain the appropriate long-stay visa or permit beforehand, as tourist visas cannot be converted.

Yes. Myanmar offers a Tourist e-Visa for many nationalities, allowing a 28-day stay. The application is done online, and approval typically takes a few working days.

Visa-on-arrival is available only for a limited list of countries and mostly for entry at Yangon, Mandalay, or Nay Pyi Taw airports. Most travellers must use the e-Visa system.

Travellers must have a passport valid for at least 6 months, a confirmed hotel booking, onward/return tickets, and may be asked for proof of funds or travel itinerary.
