Nepal Visa Information

Tourist Visa Paths & Entry Rules for Visiting Nepal

Nepal, known for its Himalayan peaks, spiritual heritage, and vibrant trekking routes, offers one of the most traveler-friendly entry systems. Most nationalities are eligible for a Visa on Arrival, typically granting a stay of 15, 30, or 90 days, depending on the traveler’s choice and fee paid.

Visitors can also apply for a Tourist Visa in advance through a Nepali embassy or consulate, though most prefer the quick and simple Visa on Arrival process. Requirements usually include a valid passport, a passport-size photo, and completion of the arrival form. Proof of accommodation and travel plans may also be requested.

Nepal allows visa extensions easily through immigration offices inside the country, making it convenient for travelers who wish to stay longer for trekking or leisure. For purposes beyond tourism—such as study, volunteering, or work—different long-term visas and permits are available.

Yes. Nepal offers a visa on arrival to the majority of nationalities at Tribhuvan International Airport (Kathmandu) and major land borders. Travellers fill out an online form at the airport, pay the fee, and receive a tourist visa.

Visitors can choose 15-day, 30-day, or 90-day tourist visas. All of these can be extended inside Nepal for up to 150 days per calendar year.

Travellers should have a passport valid for at least 6 months, a passport-sized photo (sometimes taken onsite), visa fee in cash or card, and details of accommodation. Return/onward tickets may be requested but aren’t always mandatory.
