Suriname Visa Information

Visitor Entry Options & Tourist Visa Rules for Suriname

Suriname, known for its tropical rainforests, diverse cultures, and historic colonial towns, offers a simple entry system for short-term tourists. Most travelers must obtain a Tourist Visa or Tourist Entry Fee (TEF) online before arrival, depending on their nationality. The process is fully digital and requires a valid passport, recent photo, and basic travel details.

The Tourist Entry Fee is available to many nationalities and typically allows short stays for leisure, sightseeing, and visiting family or friends. Those who are not eligible for the TEF must apply for a Tourist Visa, which may grant single or multiple-entry privileges depending on the traveler’s needs.

For longer visits or specialized travel—such as work, study, business, or residence—Suriname offers various long-stay visas and permit categories. Selecting the appropriate option ensures smooth entry and compliance with local regulations.

Suriname previously required a Tourist Card for many nationalities, but now most travellers must apply for a Suriname e-Visa or e-Tourist Visa online before departure. Visa exemptions are limited, so most visitors use the digital system.

Applicants complete an online form, upload a passport copy and photo, pay the fee, and usually receive approval by email. The e-Visa must be shown on arrival and is linked to the traveller’s passport electronically.

Tourist visas typically allow stays of 30 to 90 days, with possible extensions inside the country depending on the visa type and nationality.
