United States Of America Visa Information

Tourist Visa Choices & Entry Rules for Visiting the United States of America

The United States welcomes tourists through several entry pathways depending on nationality and travel purpose. Many visitors from eligible countries can enter using the Visa Waiver Program (VWP) by applying for an ESTA, which allows stays of up to 90 days for tourism, leisure, or short visits without needing a full visa.

Travelers who are not eligible for ESTA must apply for the B-2 Tourist Visa, the standard visa for holidays, sightseeing, family visits, and medical tourism. The B-2 visa typically allows stays of up to 6 months, with the possibility of requesting an extension from U.S. immigration authorities if needed.

For frequent travelers, long-term validity is a major advantage—B-2 visas are often issued for 5 or 10 years, allowing multiple entries as long as each visit respects the permitted stay period. Choosing the correct entry option ensures a smooth visit across the USA’s cities, national parks, and world-famous attractions.

Not everyone. Many nationalities can enter the U.S. under the Visa Waiver Program (VWP) using an ESTA for stays up to 90 days. Travellers who are not eligible must apply for a B-1/B-2 visitor visa at a U.S. embassy or consulate.

ESTA (Electronic System for Travel Authorization) is an online pre-travel approval required for VWP travellers. It must be obtained before boarding a flight or cruise to the U.S. and is valid for two years or until the passport expires.

Applicants typically provide: A valid passport DS-160 confirmation page Visa fee receipt A recent passport-size photograph Evidence of ties to home country (employment, property, family, etc.) Financial proof and travel plans (optional but helpful)
